Since 2017, New Faces New Voices Zimbabwe and Old Mutual Limited have had a strategic partnership which has been seen through the Old Mutual Women’s Network, NFNV Financial Inclusion, the Women in Finance Leadership Roundtable series, and financial literacy education programme, “On The Money”. On the 16th of November 2023, our two organisations came together once again to host a Women in Finance Leadership Roundtable themed “Women leading in the financial sector – role models and inspirational leaders”.
Our hope is that going forward, these roundtables become an annual calendar event that not only promotes the growth of women’s presence and visinility within the financial sector, but also serves to amplify their voices as women leaders and decision makers who will be able to go on and make significant contributions to the organsiations that they represent, and become national aspirations for women’s inclusion within the financial sector.
The objectives of our November roundtable were to:
- Share the findings of the Women in Leadership Survey
- Spotlight role models to inspire other women to be leaders in the financial sector.
- Pioneer roles in addressing gender disparities – making a difference as women in finance.
Axilia Chikava, Head of Risk at the Zimbabwe Women’s Microfinance Bank was our guest speaker in the “Leadership: The Journey” session. She shared her journey in the financial sector, having over 20 years experience. In her conversation with guest MC, Nyaradzo Chahuruva, Axilia spoke on the importance of women’s leadership within the financial sector because as women, we bring to this space a different perspective influence by our lived experiences within day to day society. As a result, women are often more understanding and sensitive towards other women within or aspiring to be a part of the financial sector.
We always see women at the forefront of addressing needs and finding solutions
She also stated that having women in higher decision making positions will have great impact on the design and production processes of financial products and services for women. As women we think beyond the dollar and try to understand how certain things will benefit our families and the community at large.
